Your Calling and The Caller
Good Morning,It is not uncommon for people, especially people entering a season of what Bob Buford called Halftime (https://halftimeinstitute.org) to get frustrated trying to define and discover their “calling”. They can look at other people who have seemingly found their calling and become discouraged or even envious. Part of the problem, I believe, is the way we define and portray the very idea of a calling. There are at least 2 common mistakes I have observed in this process. The first mistake people make is limiting a calling to one specific cause or endeavor. They search for that one thing, that one cause, that one pursuit that they can immerse themselves in that will provide focus for the rest of their life. For some people this is exactly what happens and they live in their personal sweet spot. There is another type of calling, no less legitimate or biblical. These individuals discover that they have a unique ability to use their skills, gifts and life experience over a variety of worthy causes. These people are often just as “Kingdom Minded” as those who focus on one thing, but the platform on which their calling plays out is simply more diverse. Examples of this might be consulting, coaching, or serving on multiple Boards, etc.The second mistake easily made is spending all our time searching for our calling while spending far too little time getting to know the Caller. It is the Caller after all, who has uniquely designed each of us. According to Ephesians 2:10 The Caller has been thinking of your wonderful, unique life since before the creation of the world.
For we are God's masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus,so we can do the good things He planned for us long ago.
If that doesn’t make you feel special and valued I’m not sure what will. Ultimately it is The Caller who provides fulfillment and joy in life. No career, cause, relationship or pursuit can take the place of a vibrant relationship with the One who is above all, through all and in all. He pursues us each, and every day and breathes fresh life into every season of life and everything we put our hands to. No experience is wasted, no roadblock is too formidable and no stumble beyond redemption.Take a moment this morning to spend time with One who knows you completely and longs to join you in your journey of discovery.Live this week on purpose,Ron Klopfenstein
