Title: The Cure for a Small God Problem
Good Morning,
When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them? Psalm 8: 3-4
In all honesty, even though I intellectually understand that God is a very big God, I don’t always live like I really believe it. I bet some of you are that way too. The difference between understanding and embracing my understanding can be a challenge. Psalm 8 gives us a cure for a “small god problem”.
First, there is a considering required. When I consider your heavens…A pause, a contemplation, a soaking in, a getting out of our own way is required. When was the last time you sat in sheer awe of God’s magnitude? I did this recently from the back of a horse in the Rockies and it humbled me as I took in theview. God’s presence everywhere, all the time and He still notices me in the midst of it all
There is also a willful submission required. Psalm 8:1 reminds us that it is God’s name who has been set above the heavens. You have set Your glory above the heavens.Creation is awesome, but let’s be careful not to miss the Creator in our wonder of creation. God is above all, over all and through all. There is room for only one on the throne of our lives. Have you submitted that place to Him?
Finally, there is a declaration that should flow from our gratitude. Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! Ps. 8:9. After pausing to consider God’s greatness and affirming that He is mindful of mere man, the Psalmist robustly proclaims that God’s name is majestic. Out of an overflowing heart, praise and adoration flow.
