How Do You Decide What is Possible?
Good Morning,As God was telling Moses of his plan to liberate the Israelites from Egypt, Moses seemed all for it. That is, until he found out he was to lead the mission. It is then his attitude suddenly changed. In verse 10 of Exodos 3 we read God’s words to Moses, who at that time was employed as a sheep farmer.
“So now, go. I am sending you to bring my people the Israelites out of Egypt.”
At that point, Moses started in with a litany of “buts” as he voiced his protest to God’s plan. “But who am I” 3:11, “But suppose…”3:13, “But what if” 4:1, “But I have never”4:10. Finally the ultimate “but” in 4:13, “But Moses said, Oh Lord, please send someone else to do it.”Moses had fallen into a trap many of us find ourselves prey to. He judged what was possible based on his own strength and ability. He knew he was ill-equipped and thus determined the venture would fail because of it. Yet as he was to discover repeatedly in this journey the outcome depended not on his ability, but rather his availability. The entirety of Scripture reveals an important truth. Just because we are in over our heads does not mean God is in over His head.He often uses people who are underqualified and inadequate. Why? So people see Him, not us. The stage God sets over and over is one in which people will have an opportunity to see Him in a more profound, lofty and yes, unexplainable way”. It is Him after all, not us, that people really need to see and come to know. God lays out this reality to Moses in the following verses from Ex. 6:6-7. Notice how many times God reminds Moses (and us) who will do the real work.“Therefore, say to Israelites: ‘I am the Lord, and I will bring you out from under the yoke of the Egyptians. I will free you from being slaves to them, and I will redeem you with an outstretched arm and with mighty acts of judgement. I will take you as my own people, and I will be your God. Then you will know that I am the Lord your God…Do you find yourself in over your head this morning? If so, you are probably right where you need to be. Stay in the game, because God may be getting ready to do something you think is impossible so others are left with nothing else to say but “Wow, that must be God.”Live this week on purpose,
