A Prayer for Today

Good Morning,

I have closed every Monday Morning Minute since its inception on August 27, 2012, with the phrase “Live on Purpose”. This phrase is a big driver in my life because time is fleeting. Days turn into months, months into years and years into decades, not a single one of which can be reclaimed. The idea of living with purpose and intention does not guarantee that everything will work out like we hope (although I believe more things will).  What it will do however, is minimize regret; the regret of not trying, not risking, not acting courageously, and realizing that the chance is not coming around again.

I recently came across a prayer by W. Heartsill Wilson which beautifully captures the heart behind these Monday musings. Ponder it a bit today.

A Prayer for Today

This is the beginning of a new day. God has given me this day to use as I will.

I can waste it or use it for good, but what I do today is important, because I am exchanging a day of my life for it.

When tomorrow comes, this day will be gone forever, leaving in its place something I have traded for it.

I want it to be gain, and not loss; good, and not evil; success, and not failure, in order that I shall not regret the price I paid for it.

This day is all I have. Is there someone to whom an act of kindness - not tomorrow but today - could make a world of difference?

Today, whether we spend it well or throw it away, will be gone tomorrow. What is there to do that is worth our effort?

Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Eph. 5:15-16
